Step
1
The existing sliding panel, screen, fixed panel, and intermediate
bar are removed. The existing frame is left in the opening,
to be used as the primary sealing point for the new window.
**Please note: Per AAMA's procedures, the existing frame must
be left installed. Failure to do so may void the manufacturer's
warranty. |
Step
2
Caulking is placed around the perimeter of the existing window
frame, the new window is inserted and sealed to the existing
frame, and secured to the structure. |
Step
3
An interior trim, which can be wood, casing, or a material
matching the window, is installed to complete the installation
of the retrofit window. |
Common questions:
How long will the process take? Retrofit windows in stucco
homes will take 1/2 -2 days to install completely, depending
on the number of windows and doors.
How much construction debris will be created? The process
is fairly clean when compared to new construction installations,
leaving little mess.
Why might I choose this method vs new construction? If
a better window at the most economical installation cost
is the objective, retrofitting is the best choice. If you
prefer a "more permanent" appearance, would like
to change window or door openings, or have specific issues
that need to be addressed, then a new construction installation
method is the right choice. See the page about new construction
methods. |
